Knit at Night Guild

It's been a while since I've plugged the Houston Knit at Night Guild (KANG), and the membership year starts right now, so this seems like a good time.

KANG is one of the more active guilds in the US, with over 250 members. There are chapters in three parts of town: the central chapter which meets near the Galleria area, the north chapter (Knitters North of Town -- KNOT) which meets in Old Town Spring, and the west chapter (Knitters' Night Out West -- KNOW) which meets in Katy. You don't need to be a member to come to meetings. In addition, the guild puts on various workshops and retreats throughout the year, and while members do get a discount on these, again, you don't need to be a member to attend; the next retreat coming up is at the end of September, with Cabin Fever doing a program on top-down sweater construction, and then in March, Debby Ware is coming to do a program on baby hats and booties.

Membership is only $20 a year, and comes with a great benefit: Twisted Yarns, Yarns 2 Ewe, Yarntopia, Mary Charles Yarn, and Merribee all give you a 10% discount when you show your guild card. Unless you're a really successful yarn dieter, this benefit alone probably pays for the cost of the membership, and makes it worthwhile even if you never come to meetings.

For more information, check out the guild website, or feel free to comment here or drop me a note.
